Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance information, associated charges, and your responsibilities during the rental period. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the terms outlined in the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Rental Vehicle Requirements
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Rayleigh, you must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ based on vehicle type. A valid driving licence, appropriate for the vehicle category, is required and should be held for the duration specified in the Rental Agreement. Additionally, you must furnish valid identification, proof of address, and payment details, including a security deposit. Any further requirements outlined in the Rental Agreement must also be met.
Booking and Payment Details
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Rayleigh office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The total payment and security deposit are generally collected at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- Upon collecting your vehicle, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection and promptly report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be created and must be signed by you. The vehicle should be returned in the same condition as it was received, allowing for standard wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. Please return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel as when collected; otherwise, refueling charges will apply. If you anticipate returning the vehicle late, contact us as soon as possible, as late returns may result in additional fees. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during your rental, along with a nominal administration fee.
Insurance and Responsibility
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. Comprehensive details and excess amounts are outlined in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to lower your financial responsibility. It is advisable to review these options closely. You are liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless you opt for added coverage. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities or purposes. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or other dangerous practices is prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials or sub-letting the vehicle to others is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, exceeding passenger or weight limits, or operating outside designated geographical boundaries without authorization is also forbidden.
Breaching these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Rayleigh will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claim is capped at the amount you paid for the rental in the past 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
9. Legal Framework
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the jurisdiction of the relevant courts in this region.
10. Updates to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon being posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
